Description:
The cimbalom virtuoso, soloist in the Hungarian Opera and Broadcasting Company, Viktória Herencsár was born in Budapest and began studying the cimbalom (hammered dulcimer) at the age of three and half. A pupil of Ida Tarjáni Tóth, she graduated with honours from the Ferenc Liszt National Conservatory of Music in Budapest in 1974. This fervent ambassador of the Hungarian hammered dulcimer appears in concerts of classical, and popular music throughout the world, both as a soloist and with large symphony and chamber orchestras (Berliner Symphonies, Hessischer Rundfunk, Spain National Symphony, Barcelona Symphony, Dresdner Philharmonics, Radio-Symphony of Stockholm, Kempens Symphony, Würtzburger Philharmonic, Philharmonic of Stuttgart, RAI Symphony, Singaporean Chinese Orchestra, etc.) In addition, she gives lectures on the history, the repertory and the teaching of the cimbalom, and was appointed president of the first Cimbalom World Congress of the hammered dulcimer (Hungary, 1991.). She took part also as a soloist of Hungary in the many Folk-festivals over the world. She was invited in the jury of many festivals and competitions. She was the cimbalom professor in the „Szent István király” Music school and Conservatory of Music in Budapest (Hungary) from 1993 till 1993. She is the professor (lecturer) at the Music Department of the Academy of Culture in Banska Bystrica (Slovakia) from 1997, and the guest professor at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing (China) from 2005. She teaches cimbalom by the different International Music Camps (Balassagyarmat /Hungary – from 1994, Abaújszántó/Hungary – in 2005, etc.). She is the president of the Cimbalom World Association from 1991. More television and broadcasting companies made with her recording. She was honoured with “Nivo” prize of the Hungarian Broadcasting Company (1983), the “Artisjus” prize for the interpretation of the Hungarian music (1996, 2005) and the “Inter-Lyra” prize in 2000. Many composers wrote her compositions. In 2004 she graduated as culture and adult education manager at the Faculty of Adult education and Human resources Development of the University of Pécs.

Klmn Balogh is one of the foremost Hungarian cimbalom players, descending from a famous dynasty of Hungarian Gypsy musicians. His virtuosity is matched only by his understanding and respect of his heritage. A graduate of Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest, he has completed many successful tours throughout the world with various ensembles, including seven tours in North America. Balogh spent many years studying the music of the Roma which may be found in the European Continent. His love, knowledge and respect to these versatile musical forms are unsurpassed. He has performed and toured extensively with many folk bands and has recorded dozens of albums as a solo artist and as a studio cimbalom player. He was a featured artist in numerous major European festivals and venues featuring Gypsy music. In North America he performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, New World Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Austin Symphony and the Bend, Oregon Festival Orchestra. In addition, he also played at many North American festivals, clubs and world music venues.

Upper Potomac Dulcimer Fest  |

Description:
Upper Potomac Dulcimer Fest was started in 1988 to bring together some of the finest dulcimer players in the United States for workshops, classes, concerts, jam sessions and more. Located in a small town in West Virginia, USA, the festival's intimacy provides an excellent learning atmosphere. It is an hour away from Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland and is now held in a rustic, turn-of-the-century resort hotel. Two hammered dulcimer festivals are offered, one in March and one in September.
