Iranian-American composer, santur virtuoso and vocalist, Roya Bahrami will present a program entitled "Understanding Multi-Cultural identity through Artistic Expression", which will include interweaving portions of lecture and performance including poetic recitations.

Roya will talk about the history of Persian music as it comes into contact with other cultures with specific focus on the music of Andalusia, Spain. She will be performing original music from her recent CD including compositions in Persian classical as well as her own innovative form of Persian-Flamenco fusion.

The Persian santur, dates back to 7th century B.C. and is the "great grand parent" of the piano with relatives around the world such as the Romanian cimbalom and the hammer dulcimer. The santur is made of aged walnut wood and has 72 strings arranged in 18 quadruple sets, and is played by using two handmade wooden mallets.
