Competition is organized under the auspices of the town of Valašské Meziříčí in cooperation with the Cultural
Centre of Valašské Meziříčí, the Civil Association of Dulcimer Players of the Czech Republic and the Primary
Art School.


REGULATIONS OF DULCIMER PLAY COMPETITION


Interpretational competition is divided into three age categories and will consist of 2 rounds:
1st category: Year of birth: 1992and younger
2nd category: Year of birth: 1991 – 1988
3rd category: Year of birth: 1987 – 1977
Terms of competition:
1st Category – 1st round: a) required composition: Allaga Geza: Etuda Triol
(this performance is anonymous)
b) solo composition(s) from Renaissance, Baroque or Classicism period
(time limit: 3-5 minutes, transcripts are allowed)
– 2nd round: composition(s) according to player’s own choice in solo performance
(time limit 4 – 6 minutes, transcripts are not allowed)
2nd Category – 1st round: a) required composition: Jozsef Nagy,Etuda IV. – published in Hungary
(the performance is anonymous)
b) composition(s) for solo dulcimer from the period of Renaissance, Baroque or
Classicism
( time limit 6 – 8 minutes, transcripts are allowed)
c) composition(s) from the 19th century in solo performance
(time limit 5-7 minutes, transcripts are allowed)
– 2nd round: Concert cyclical composition from the 20-21st century for solo dulcimer
(time limit is 8-10 minutes, transcripts are not allowed)
3rd Category – 1st round: a) required composition: J. Dadak, Concert Etude 1 – published by M. Zeman Brno
(the performance is anonymous)
b) solo composition(s) from the Renaissance, Baroque or Classicism period
(time limit is 6-8 minutes, transcripts are allowed)
c) solo composition(s) from the 19th century
(time limit 7-9 minutes, transcripts are allowed)
2nd round: : Concert cyclical composition from the 20-21st century for solo dulcimer
(time limit is 10-12 minutes, transcripts are not allowed)
1. Play by heart is required in all rounds !
2. All the rounds are open to public.
3. Everybody who meets the terms of the competition can participate.
4. All competitors must play the required piece(s) otherwise will be disqualified.
5. Points will be taken down for not fulfilling the other given instructions for the play.
6. Every competitor must give 2 copies of their chosen music to the jury before starting the specific round.
7. Music can be obtained from internet site www.lpt.cz/festival
8. Winners (1st prize) can use the title “Competition laureate”.
9. Prize competitors can play at the final gala concert.

The closing date is: March 23, 2007.
2. There is no admission fee with applications for registering
3. Participant fee is 300 Czech crowns and will be asked for at the presentation for the festival.
Competition assessment
1. Jury decide on all prizes.
2. Jury is international and is nominated by the organiser. It has at least 5 members.
3. The required piece performance are judged anonymously (jury is blinded)
4. Each of the competitors is assessed by points from 0 to 25 according to their performance.
5. The lowest and the highest mark is left out, points received for the anonymous and the public parts of
the competition are added and four competitors in each category whose rating is the highest may enter
the second round. If there is the same rating for the fourth and fifth competitor, then the jury decide
which of them will enter the second round. The second round of the competition is assessed in the same
way as the first round. The lowest and the highest mark is left out. The highest rating in each category
means the first place etc. Should there be the same rating with two or more competitors, the jury decide
according to the number of points in the first round. If 1st round points not helpful in decision, then the
jury decide themselves.
6. The jury is entitled to stop the performance of any competitors after their performance or required piece.
7. The jury is entitled to stop performances exceeding the time limit.
8. The jury is entitled to merge, split or not to award any of the prizes. The jury also decide on which of
the competitors will perform at the closing gala concert and on their repertoire.
9. The prize awards of competitors in each category will be specified at the Festival Opening.
Accomodations:
The organiser willl arrange accommodation for the competitors and 1 accompanying teacher for the whole
length of the festival.
Travel expenses will not be covered.
