2nd Hackbrett Festival in Munich January 2020

As with the 1st Hackbrett (Hammered Dulcimer) Festival 2018, the 2nd Hackbrett Festival on January 10 and 11, 2020, under the conception and direction of Prof. Birgit Stolzenburg at the Gasteig venue of the Munich University of Music and Theatre, presented an extensive and varied program with workshops, lectures and concerts, supplemented by an large exhibition of hackbretts and salterios with accessories such as sticks, strings, music stands, tuning equipment etc., as well as sheet music and CDs. Another attraction in the foyer were mobile displays with a detailed documentation in words and pictures about the development of the Hackbrett, i.e. the chromatic hammered dulcimer, in Bavaria from 1939 to 2008, compiled by Lorenz de Biasio.

The versatility of the hackbrett in concerts, workshops and lectures was demonstrated at the second festival in musical styles since the Middle Ages. The documentation on the development of the chromatic hackbrett since 1939 shows that the instrument has gained increasing importance and recognition over the past decades. This is also proven by the numerous visitors. So we look forward to more hackbrett festivals!

A full report will be in the next CWA News, out January/February 2021.
